Even if Red had gotten her back to being mostly-safe, firing off the equivalent of a fire hose not only slickened the branch she had footing on, but her body was so unprepared to brace for the force that she ending up knocking herself right off the dumb thing.
Except, she forced some chakra into her fingers and held on, using her measly twig arms to pull herself back up, mostly because she realized that, even though she had tried to jump before, there really wasn't much of anywhere to go. Then, there were shiny, flashy, bright senbon going too fast for her to dodge. The lightning easily penetrated the little resistance her flesh offered, because let's face it, the human body is pretty much jelly. Her shoulders and back sustained most of the damage from the aerial attack, in part due to the odd angle. In any case, before she could grunt out a pain-filled answer, she legitimately slipped.
And fell.
And slammed her back on a branch some five feet below, which was probably ready to snap in the next bad wind storm ANYWAY, because it snapped again and she more or less just landed some twenty feet lower.
Sickening crack told her that her left arm just broke. Plus, a few of her muscles were still in spasm from Hitomi's attack. GREAT. As though one word could sum up the entire experience riddled with cosmic bad luck, she muttered, "Owwwwwww."
Overall, the idea of Red on a black-cloud monorail proved less frightening than the freefall for the turn, although that probably was about to change.

Adjusting the cloud to push her downwards faster, Hitomi winced as she saw Amazora fall - it looked painful to say the least. Catching the girl moments before the ground, she slowed her descent and lay her there. "I hadn't expected you to be this.. opposed to joining us. I hope that one day you'll realise you're better off with us, truly, Amazora-san." Applying a bit of soft electric pressure to her arm in attempt to numb the pain, Hitomi sighed and tossed a first aid kit next to her. "You should understand I can't really return to the village with you. We've barely been traveling, don't worry, you'll be fine. If you were with us, your wounds would fix and your pain would subside with ease.. I hope you live well, even if you don't make that realisation." Hitomi smiled caringly down at the girl, patting her on the head before dissolving into pink rose petals, one last disappointing sigh lingering in the air.

| The Wandering Forest might have been big and forbidding to some, but to Hitomi, it was home away from home- and since that silly soldier, the silly man, hadn't given a thought to let her into the village because he was so busy staring off into space, the little girl decided to visit the beloved woodland. She held onto the parasol Amazora had given her rather carefully as she traipsed around the trees, shaking water off herself as a dog would after a rain shower.
Unconsciously, she shifted her shoulders, an unknown but common shiver/itch running down both of her shoulder blades. She thought about going to The Tree of Life, but decided against it. After all, the day had only begun for her in the Wandering Forest. The energy of her body, her unceasingly leaping and lively chakra, thrummed within her veins, making her feel even more alive than usual. It was, indeed, a magnificent day to be alive; and the overwhelming responses from her chakra channels were conducive to the heady excitement.
The rain clouds had left the sky, leaving it clear, clean, and blue. The sun shone gently upon the forest, making Hitomi grateful to be there. However, it was still cold- and Hitomi's skin was almost blue in its excursion from the freezing rain.
"I wonder how Ame-chan is doing. Kage-sama must be kind to her."

As soon as she saw Red's shadow loom over her, she was fairly sure that she was screwed. It made enough sense that she'd apply basic first aid to her, considering that she was intent on dragging the genin to whatever Hell she had crawled out of, but no, she suddenly changed her mind.
Maybe they just didn't like cripples, seeing that she definitely was one now -- at least until her arm healed, but that could take weeks. And, considering that she was a ninjutsu specialist, that really cut down on her usefulness.
The scary part was that it seemed that the jounin was genuine. It kind of made her wonder what screwed her up so bad. Once she dispersed in a flowery bloom of petals, Amazora couldn't help but mutter, "What was the point of that?!"
Amazora, it was for the plot. >.<
Staggering up like a determinator, thanks, in part, to her newly numbed arm, she dragged the kit that had been left behind for her, propped her back up against a tree, and tried to tie a splint, which probably took half an hour due to having absolutely no coordination. Roundabout that time, when some of the pain was beginning to filter in again, she realized that the name, "Wandering Woods" had been applied to the region for a reason.
Ugh. Through the canopy, she could see that the sky had cleared up, so it didn't seem like it was her power hour any more. She ought to start walking back, and since everything hurt like no tomorrow, that was going to take a while....

| It was strange- even for Hitomi, that her chakra levels were becoming so high. Her existing chakra levels upon an ordinary basis were already extraordinarily high. Now, however, they bubbled even higher, as though she had chosen a prize soldier pill and had swallowed it. Firstly, Hitomi was far too young- not to mention quite lacking in rank- to buy soldier pills. Secondly, she did not exactly require a soldier pill at the time- and there seemed to be no other stimuli that would provoke a rise in chakra levels. Of course, Hitomi did not think of these; she merely started feeling strange and thought it strange that she was feeling, indeed, strange. She started jogging, trying to jog off the chakra. This, however, proved to be insufficient, as the levels were still increasing. Shrugging, she broke into a run, at which point her skin, unbeknownst to her, started *glowing*. Yes- and it was not as though it were glowing in health. Nay, it (the glow) was expanding in size, with a white nimbus outlining her figure and accentuating her already very pale skin. The nimbus expanded and faded from white to a blue-purple, or quite indeed, indigo. The faster Hitomi attempted to run, the more intense and even larger the aura became. Soon, she was sprinting blindly, racing towards a random spot in the forest and breathing rather hard. Still, she did not feel *tired*; quite the contrary, she became more and more *energized*, and the chakra began to even hurt. She tried her very best to hold back the scream of pain bubbling from her vocal cords and succeeded…until she found herself right on collision course with a large tree. The pain of crushing herself right onto a trunk that felt as hard as the iron of her kunai as well as the increasingly painful push of her chakra levels released the scream…and, well the scream released a detonation of sorts.
“AAAAH!”
BOOM.
A very LARGE and VERY indigo detonation that created concussions within the wind and earth that could be felt from a long, long ways away.

There was a distant scream, reverberating through the forest. Amazora, still resting at her tree, looked up, trying to figure out which way it had originated, simply so that she could travel in the opposite direction. No way in fucking hell was she up for a fight right now, and screams meant bad things were about to happen.
Struggling to find her balance, she teetered, swinging sharply left. "Ow," she groaned, making her abs taut to stand herself straight. Her legs hurt so bad. Her arm hurt worse. And her head! Maybe she should have been less of a determinator and an extremist.
With both of her feet fully on the ground, she felt what may have been the beating pulse of Mother Earth. Or not, no need t'get fancy like that. It was more like a burst of energy had shaken the forest, because the wind rushed by when she turned. Squinting, she could see some light. It wasn't particularly bright light, not at first; it exploded from the darkness with a color very nearly like the dark, indigo; when she saw what she could only describe as a "roaring lion of light" fast approaching, she turned to the run.
She lost her balance when her foot caught a tree root and pulled her down, forcing her to land on her just-broken limb. Only by biting into her lip had she managed to soften the grunt of sheer pain. Tears welled at her eyes, but she let them go no further because, gorram, she didn't cry for anything. Even if the pain was so bad.
As it happened, she landed in a rut with something of a slope, a higher elevation. When she turned herself over, the indigo was merely above her, so very close to her skin that it wasn't even funny. For the moment, she had a reprieve to catch her breath.

| The blast had made the winds blow with a renewed fury. Hitomi groaned in an almost raspy way, her tear-streaked face contorted in pain. She tried to sniff- but gasped in renewed pain as reverberations of blood and throbbing from her now broken nose emanated from the broken cartilage and bone. The tree’s trunk had left its mark upon the girl who lay sprawled on the ground.
"Owww...."
She looked up at the mammoth tree that she had run into, quite by accident, of course. It had to be one of the largest, if not the largest tree in the Wandering Forest. Hitomi could also hear a faint humming coming from the tree, as though it were contemplating life in the forest as well as swaying in the wind. Now that she thought of it, it was swaying far too much for a tree of its size- and its humming was rather loud. It did not stop her from trying to get up, to stand upon its mighty roots. A hand she extended towards the tree to press upon its smooth-barked trunk, so that she may lean upon its mighty girth and facilitate her move back to proper posture. If she was also looking for a way to recover from pain and chakra explosions, it was certainly one of the biggest mistakes she ever made.
The moment her hand contacted the trunk, yet another explosion occurred. This time, the explosion light was pure white laced with golden rays- and it emanated more intensely- nay, more primarily from her back. The pain returned in epic proportions with the light, and once again, poor Hitomi could not help but scream, even more loudly, in agony as she arched her back, left hand upon the tree, right hand clutched in a fist, body draped upon the ground and the tree’s earthy roots.
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!”
The sound of ripped fabric drowned desperately in the scream and the roar of the light; light converged upon her back, materializing and becoming more concrete, as though it were forming into an object, or rather two, upon her back.
Light also swarmed Hitomi’s pain-ridden face- repairing her broken nose and cleaning away the scarlet blood.
Feathers of light danced upon the wind, creating a whirlwind of light, of feathers. Golden, indigo, and white light flickered prominently in the whirlwind. It was a spectacular and impressive spectacle that went on for about a minute, lighting the dark skies for miles around. It dissipated as soon as Hitomi collapsed, exhausted and breathless. The wind died down, and Hitomi’s delicate frame was sheltered by two large, white wings that seemed to emanate a wholesome glow of light. Their light pulsed rhythmically in unison with Hitomi’s heartbeat, and curled around her body, protecting and comforting it from the chaotic changes it had weathered.
Whether she knew and liked it or not, the little wandering kunoichi Hitomi was a Mitsukai: a human-angel hybrid, and would face much unwanted attention from others if she wandered into any form of civilization with her wings exposed. She would have to learn how to seal them- and that would not come easily.
Around her limp hands, circular bands of light formed, gleaming dangerously as a warning to any who came by and meant their owner any harm. Even unconsciously, Hitomi had stumbled upon a stroke of luck: someone or something was watching over her.

Staring into an energy blast gave her time. Time to think about life. She got the vaguest sense of deja vu. Like, she'd seen something like this before, even though nothing remotely supernatural had plagued her life thus far, aside from that which she was already accustomed.
That's not supposed to make much sense.
After a few long moments, with only her heartbeat to fill the silence, the light seemed to die down enough for her to hoist herself up with a long root. When she applied the slightest pressure to it, the surrounding soil crumbled away, so she wasn't sure just how "safe" it was. "Safe," because it wasn't exactly dangerous, but she was almost sure that the rope-like tree appendage might snap with her weight tugging at it. Luckily, it held, and she was soon on her feet.
Hearing more screaming was never a good sign; therefore, Amazora just got another bad sign. Based on its volume and the weight of the pain behind it, the urgency, whomever the voice belonged to was in serious danger. She stopped and considered. Red might have found a passerby and attacked, and, since she had been the last hostage, it was kind of her fault.
Even though she had intended to go the opposite way, she hardened her resolve and started running towards the center of the energy blast. She felt weak, but the endorphins were helping. Honestly, she wasn't sure how long she'd traveled and if there was any real point to doing so, other than throwing herself in harm's way and clear out of the path of civilization.
She knew she was in the right spot when she saw lots of sparkles. What the average person probably would have beheld with wonder and reverence, Amazora just shrugged, kicked a tree, and said, "This is dumb!" Mostly because she had done all of that for nothing, PLUS, now her toe hurt.
Having just had an argument with a crazy chick about religion, running into an angel didn't seem to be helping her case. "This didn't happen last time," she mused, rubbing her chin. Approaching closer, she noticed concentric bands of gold around the girl's wrist. It wasn't hard to recognize her, either.
Did she not know what staying put meant? Seriously!
Unsure if there was a clear and present danger, Amazora withdrew one of her remaining kunai. Most people would have thought that, with her left arm broken, she'd still be fairly well off; since she was left-handed, she was kind of screwed if she had to defend herself.

| It seemed an eternity before Hitomi's frame moved, ever so slightly. The girl herself had slowly begun to revert back to consciousness from her knock-out session. She heard faint crunching as she came to, but felt far too comfortable on the ground to really care and take heed.
Hitomi tried to move her fingers. They twitched, and then clutched at themselves, attempting to form a fist, a loose fist.
"OUCH! Oww...."
Her fingers had wrapped themselves unwittingly around the sharp bands of light that shown even more brightly when she had taken a hold of them. They drew blood and had made shallow cuts upon her pale palms and fingers. As soon as the pain had hit, Hitomi leapt up, sitting, in surprise. She blinked, biting her bottom lip, wordlessly commanding them to go away. They dissipated with the sunlight, causing Hitomi to take in a breath of relief.
Then, she turned around, still clueless about the appendages that extended, prominently, from her back.
".....Ame-san?"
At this point, Hitomi was sufficiently confused. Firstly, she felt abnormally light and heavy at the same time, Secondly, she was located in a portion of the Wandering Forest she was actually unfamiliar with. Lastly, but certainly not least, Amazora stood in front of her, left arm hanging off on a strange angle, holding a *kunai* while staring at her.
Nevertheless, Hitomi was never one for being rude. She carefully picked up the now..."sparking" umbrella from the ground and presented it to the cautious ninja.
"Ame-san, it's your umbrella. I'm sorry, I think I got it dirty, but at least it's not broken. And why are you staring at me like that? And why are you here? I thought you went to go see Kage-sama. Where's Red?"

Lowering the sharp, pointy, stabby battle implement, Amazora flinched at the word that came pretty damn close to actually being her name. Well, the name she used regularly. Now that she thought about it, she was fairly sure that, aside from calling the girl "you," she didn't actually have a proper name.
Oh well. It'd be funny to see how long she could go without one.
"My umbrella fared better 'an m'arm," Amazora grunted, too lazy to enunciate her words. Realizing that she couldn't actually carry it, she slid the weapon into its holster and reached out for the handle of her "prized possession." It was kinda beat up, but at this point, she was too tired to really care. Maybe it was time to change her look soon.
"Hey, um, I think you got cancer," Amazora said, trying to point at the huge tumors-for-wings that had sprouted out of lassie's back. Judging by the way the ground around the new angel was disturbed -- particularly, some flecks of blood on the bark -- she figured that the brainless girl crashed into the tree with enough concussive force to die. That'd explain the angel bit. Angels were dead people.
....Or somebody rung a bell.
"Yeah, that didn't go so well. If y'see Red again, even if she offers ya some candy or another, don't follow her. Y'got that?"

| Hitomi's shoulders slumped in relief when she saw that Amazora did not mind too much the damage done to the umbrella. She silently swore to herself that she would either have the umbrella fixed or even customize a new, battle-worthy one for the kind girl when she had the money and opportunity.
Her sense of peace, however, was short-lived. It was murdered by Amazora's next statement.
"Hey, um, I think you got cancer."
For a few seconds, Hitomi gaped in disbelief at her friend, mouth firming in preparation for a retort, that it was incredibly impossible for her, a healthy thirteen-year-old ninja, to have something as ridiculous as *cancer*.
"Cancer? Oh, come on, I'm-"
Her statement broke off abruptly when she *finally* noticed that Amazora, despite her broken arm, was gesturing- nay, pointing at....at her back?
Hitomi reached a bleeding right hand toward her spine. What she expected to be thin air...turned out to be something smooth and slightly warm. She gasped in shock, her face blanching violently. Her other hand reached for the other side of her back, finding that the same applied for the other side of her back. Extending from her back were wings, that if extended to their maximum length, were a little over seven feet long per wing, startlingly large for a fledgling Mitsukai.
She screamed in confusion, and then muttered to her wings, clutching at them,
"Go away, go away, go away!"
Almost immediately, the wings faded, leaving behind little trace of their appearance. Hitomi's breathing had accelerated, almost as though she were hyperventilating- and, as such, she did not notice the disappearance of the appendages, nor the new burning sensation right behind her left shoulder, where a newly marked, indigo-colored tattoo appeared to reveal her heritage when wings would not.
She involuntarily collapsed into a sitting duck position on the ground, rocking back and forth as her voice faded and her breathing rapidly hitched back and forth, back and forth. Amazora's next words went unheeded; Hitomi was not in any state to consider candy, or even Amazora's repulsion towards Red.
Clearly, Hitomi was not taking the transformation well at all.

"Well, y'figured out how to do that mighty fast," Amazora said, tilting the parasol. "It's like, I guess if you gotta figure out how to do something, that's what happens. Except, if you're falling, you don't just learn how to fly...well, actually, you would. Bad example."
It was kind of funny watching the girl's adverse reaction for the first five minutes. After that, it was just like, are y'done yet? Since that was hardly the thing to say during a crisis such as this -- even though it probably went no further than an existential crisis -- Amazora pretty much had to step up into a role that she was less inclined to take.
"Okay, you, man the fuck up! Who cares if you're a mutant freak? You're going to get up on this twiggy legs and you're gonna get out of this forest before a hyena or a jaguar comes out to eat us, y'got it? Now ain't the time for PTSD or a blue screen of death or your personal shit." Swinging her umbrella, she prodded the girl.

Hitomi shrieked shrilly in adverse surprise when Amazora's umbrella made contact with her body. Pushing the umbrella away with her fairly prodigious physical strength, she gasped after hearing those words, staring at her hands, which were now glowing with indigo, white, and golden lights.
"Not even I know where we are, Ame-san. I've never seen this tree before. Out of all the places we could be, we're both in a place I am unfamiliar with in the Wandering Forest."
After finishing that sobering statement, Hitomi then gestured uncertainly at the umbrella that she had contacted with the gauntlet-like shroud surrounding her hand.
"Ame-san...I think I kind of damaged your umbrella again..."
As she spoke, her feet started shining in unison with her hands. Both glows solidified- both her hands and feet were armored, with chakra, as it were. The chakra around her feet became something akin to iron...WHITE iron.
The most surprising, however, was yet to come. The TREE behind Hitomi started shining, its green energies filling the area. A shining white outline began to form at the base of its roots, which, in synchronization with the tree, started growing, growing, and...growing. It did not seem to stop until the roots were as tall as the two kunoichi themselves; and the hum of the tree had become all-too conspicuous. Hitomi turned around and once again turned white. This was not a normal day.

Amazora, about to retort that she didn't care where they were so long as they got on the move and eventually worked towards getting out, was distracted by a shredding nose coming from her umbrella, specifically where My-Little-Angel decided to grab it. She looked at the parasol, which was officially approaching retirement age, and backhandedly chucked it on the forest floor. Obviously, she wasn't the person to form any kind of real concrete endearment to people or objects, so it wasn't any real loss.
"Whatev. Y'know what's weird?" Amazora pointed to the shiny-glowy tree behind the girl. "That's preeetty weird. Wow, today is, like, all the fun of being high without actually being high."

| Something about the tree *drew* Hitomi to the base of its roots. She started scrabbling, slowly, to a gap in the roots, where the ground actually appeared and led her down, down, down, where despite the depth, there was more light emanating from the tree than anywhere else. Amazora might have been thinking about how following Hitomi would definitely warrant a second thought, but if Amazora also was curious about what fantastic event would occur next, she need not have worried about following Hitomi.
"Ame...Ame-san?"
By now, wherever Amazora was had she not followed Hitomi to the base of the roots, she would have felt a great rumbling and writhing from the roots as they separated and made way for a path and (was this even possible?) great doorway leading *into* the tree.
"Ame-san, I think you'd wanna come see this. It's so cool!"

"I wouldn't go explorin' weird, glow-y trees," Amazora cautioned, watching her naive cohort scamper around the tree roots. It seemed like a BAD IDEA. Most of her brainpower was spent focusing on a way out of her, not on a way of being screwed royally by a magical tree and a fledgling angel who, not five seconds before, was busy having a panic attack.
Because the plot demanded it, Amazora eventually folded in and followed the girl into the tree, if only so that she could grumpily retort, "Stop sayin' m'name, it ain't cute."

| From the "down, down" came an "up, up". The entrance led to a steep staircase grown out of the tree's wood, leading up and up and up. Hitomi had climbed for a while before remembering that Amazora's physical condition was not to be trifled with. She made her way down again, to attempt to help her up the steps.
"Don't worry, Ame-san, I don't think it means us any harm. He's telling me to go up and then find him. The tree, that is."
Whatever Hitomi was hearing from that song, it was apparently growing stronger by the minute. An idiot would be able to tell that the thrumming from the tree was a summons.

Maybe it because she almost passed out and broke her neck earlier that afternoon, but Amazora was having a hard time figuring out the tree's roundabout way of guiding them. She kind of needed medical care, but she was just that badass, shrugging off her injuries. The fledgling angel came back to check on her, but she was moving along, albeit slowly. Then again, her one speed was slow.
"Naw, he doesn't mean you any harm. I ain't a tree hugger. Y'hear? Y'should get cut down, Big Ol' Tree. Yeah, I'd like to see you try to hit me off this newfangled root!" Amazora was officially tempting fate. Again. Because doing things the hard way was what she did best...worst...something.

| Hitomi giggled when she heard Amazora's last statement. The tree's humming also seemed to throb with deep-throated and sonorous chuckles, which made Hitomi grin even more. She hefted Amazora's good right arm around her shoulders, and since Amazora was much taller than she was, it was fairly easy for her to support her friend and even speed up her progress up the steep staircase. Before long, even Hitomi was breathing hard and blinking sweat out of her eyes. Her thighs burned, but the tree's humming encouraged her, refreshed her.
"Come...on.....let's....keep.....on....going...!"
It seemed a long time, but before too long, Hitomi and Amazora had reached the top of the stairs. The sight was something to behold...they were standing in a gently glowing atrium. It was glowing green- the light of healing chakra. The light emanated from a source in the middle of the chamber, a massive source of multi-colored-chakra that pulsed and hummed in approval. With little warning other than an expansion of area, the body of chakra sent out a stream of green light that split into several different branches, so to speak. They gestured toward Amazora.
"Thou art injured. Wilt thou accept my help? Thy friend hath carried thee far...let not her labour be in vain, prithee."
Hitomi could only gawp at the source.

Amazora stopped midstep. Why the hell does she speak TREE?! But really, she only stopped because the shorter, smaller, younger girl decided to violate her personal space in an attempt to help her walk. She decided to be slightly more annoying and dragged her feet, thereby making Hitomi work. By the breathing and the sweating, she was feeling good and properly deviant.
As if the day couldn't get weirder, they found a chamber of sorts in the tree canopy, throwing of green light.
Frickin' hell, now she was being spoken to!
"If you so little as heal a scratch, I will reach into my pocket, pull out the book of matches, and smoke a leaf-rolled ciggy of forest weeds. And when I'm done, I'll throw the hot butt on leaf litter and, well, let's just say it ain't endin' well fer ya."
Amazora wasn't about to ditch the badassness of her hard-won injuries!

| The chakra source seemed to overflow with merriment, and the tree itself shook in tree-laughter.
"Ah, thou art a saucy one. Thou doth not have a 'match-box' in thy pockets, for thou wouldst done so before journeying upward to greet me. And...I am thy only route back to thy village. Thou hadst become truly lost in my woods. I shan't lead thee back unless thou hast agreed to the healing of thy injuries. What wilt it be, little one? Sauciness or common sense?"

Amazora shrugged, albeit, painfully. "No way broski. I'd sooner be lost. I'll just turn back for the forest floor, wander around, listen fer and ocarina playin' three notes, and hope that I don't turn into a skull kid who befriends a green-clad fairy boy and looks for him in a distant land, stumbling upon an evil mask and transforming into a super villain capable of smashing the moon into th'earth in seventy-three hours."
"Hey! I got a question! Why d'ya have to speak in Ye Old English? It's cause we're expectin' it, ain't it? It comes with the genre, right? C'mon man, dig out some sick beats."
The sooner she stopped with the wise-cracking, the sooner she'd get home. For some reason, she seemed okay with prolonging the stinging pain and running a higher chance of being declared a missing nin to throw a few barbs at the abomination of her high imagination.

| A sigh seemed to ripple through the tree, along with some additional laughter. "Such wit and intelligence and yet much foolishness thou harbors within thy mind...very well. Farewell thee both well, little ones." The chakra source expanded- and with a flash, both of them disappeared from the inside of the tree. ((Back to the Iwa gates...I can like only hope that like Nyrax is there to let us in. )) | |
