History

Sonya doesn't remember her parents, as they died when she was barely old enough to walk. She doesn't even remember her real surname, so for now she goes without. The earliest memories she has are from growing up in her foster home before the great earthquake hit and tore apart Iwa from under them. Her foster family died during the earthquake, not that she really cared much for them. They were, after all, just foster parents. They were nice enough people, but she didn't love them. She knew they weren't her real parents.

Since the destruction of Iwa, she has been living on her own, making her home in an old abandoned apartment building overgrown with vines and other plants in the ruins of the old village. She does venture down into the tunnels and the new main village of Iwa underground, but that's only to get missions from the council to help with the rebuilding process every now and then, and also to buy food and other supplies. Though a Genin, she was never given a real team, which isn't all that surprising considering the state Iwa is in right now, so she has been forced to train herself through countless hours of practice, and reading many books describing all sorts of different training techniques.

During these troubled times, she did have one very dear friend, called Aimi. They did everything together, including missions. It was on one of these missions, however, that Aimi met her end during a surprise bandit ambush. Sonya, who had been injured and unable to help her dearest friend, felt helpless and weak in the wake of Aimi's death, and now feels determined to become as strong as possible. Also, during the battle that led to Aimi's death, Sonya unlocked a hidden kekkei genkai deep in her blood, the Sharingan of the Uchiha Clan.

Sonya entered the Chuunin Exams with the intent of winning in order to honor Aimi's death and redeem herself for her failure. While she did make it to the final round, she eventually lost, forcing her to suffer yet another failure. She now chastises herself for being unable to honor Aimi's memory in any fitting way, and is beginning to fall into a downward state of depression.

Shortly after being promoted to Chuunin, Sonya was sent on a mission to eliminate the final bandit camp, the same bandits that killed Aimi. She was to work on this mission with two fellow shinobi and take the bandit leader alive. However, consumed with her grief and self loathing, she had no intention of taking him alive. She intended to kill the man no matter what, and her teammates would not stop her. When faced with the bandit leader and attempting to take his life, her teammates tried to prevent her from doing so; she killed them as a result, and then killed the bandit leader as well.

After realizing what she had done, Sonya fled Earth Country immediately, fearing that she would be branded a criminal and locked away forever. She traveled for many days, heading south until she reached a desert. She continued trying to travel through the desert, but ended up collapsing due to dehydration. As it turns out, she was just outside the entrance of Suna, and the Kazekage saw her and brought her to the hospital

When she awoke in the hospital, she conversed with the Kazekage, who offered to give her a place to live there in Suna. She accepted, and went through a series of tests shortly afterwards to be become an official Suna shinobi and citizen, even reattaining her old position of Chuunin. During her time as a Suna Chuunin, she was put into the supervision of a senior ninja, Hachi, a Special Jounin. He accompanied her on all her missions, taking note of her loyalty and skill.

After quite some time and many missions, Hachi got her a trial to join the Interrogation Squad, which she had been interested in for a while. During one missions, she was called to interrogate a prisoner and gain information from him. Sonya passed the test with flying colors, early crippling the man's mentality with genjutsu and getting quite a bit of useful information.

Now, Sonya has been promoted to Special Jounin, with interrogation obviously being her area of expertise. She has been accepted to work on the Interrogation Squad, under the employ of Jirobou, the Head Interrogator.

Through an extensive series of missions, Sonya and Jirobou uncovered a conspiracy put forth by Ame and Tani to overthrow Suna and take its place as a great shinobi village. However, they learned that they were not actually the ones in charge of the operation, as a crazed rogue shinobi named Kato had put everything in motion, with the intent on having the three countries destroy each other.

During the final confrontation with Kato, both Hachi and Jirobou died, something that caused Sonya a great amount of grief and torment. She was reminded of Aimi's death all over again, and almost fell into another state of depression. However, knowing that Aimi wouldn't want that, she managed to keep fighting, eventually killing Kato and bringing an end to the whole fiasco. Wiith Hachi's final request, he asked her not to blame herself, and to keep fighting strong. She did so, managing to move on from his death six months later.

Afterwards, Sonya was given her own genin team, which she led with her new upbeat and zany attitude. She was also given the position of Chief Interrogator on the Interrogation squad, taking Jirobou's place after he died. Two more years passed, and Sonya was eventually promoted to Jounin.

While taking a stroll through the desert, Sonya was confronted by an unknown man named Itami. This man attacked her without warning or provocation, stating that she was a threat that needed to be eliminated. While putting up a valiant fight, she was defeated, left crippled by various injuries, including a poison that left her body weak and nearly lifeless for quite some time. While recovering, she was confined to a wheelchair and forced to take on many low ranked missions to get by until she recovered. After finally returning to full strength, Sonya worked hard and was eventually promoted to Sannin of the village, and given a new team to teach, as well.
