Sonya's Chuunin Exams Empty
PostSubject: Sonya's Chuunin Exams   Sonya's Chuunin Exams EmptyMon May 30, 2011 5:40 pm

Sonya

Sonya glanced around the small, dimly lit room. About thirty or so teams of genin had gathered for the upcoming chuunin exams, which started today. That was what she was there for. According to the Tsuchikage, she was ready to take the exams, because of her skill and service to the village. She didn't feel like she deserved it, though. All she'd done was a bit of helping to fix up Old Iwa, and get her best friend killed. How should that be rewarded with the opportunity to be made a chuunin? Aimi should be here taking the exams with her, but instead she was buried in the cemetery that they had helped fix up. Her name, too, had been carved into the newly restored shinobi monument, which they had helped restore.

The Tsuchikage had placed her on a temporary team for the duration of the exams, and told her to work well together with them. How was she supposed to do that, though? She didn't know either of these people, and wanted nothing to do with them. If it wasn't required for her to be on a team for the exams, she would have refused vehemently. The least she could do in Aimi's memory was win these blasted exams for her. Sonya would make Aimi proud, from wherever she was watching.

Taking in a deep breath, she slowly let it out and stared down at the desk she was sitting at, her assigned seat. When they had walked into the room, each desk had a person's name on it. Naturally, they sat where their own name was. It seemed that they had spread each team's members out as much as possible, but still there was no proctor present in the room. Until one arrived to begin the exams, all they could do was wait silently. Well, at least she was waiting silently. The other genin were all chatting away and having a good time... something that she and Aimi often did.

Sonya tapped her fingers on the desk. This was taking forever, couldn't they just start already? Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, there was a loud bang at the front of the room. In a rather explosive burst of smoke, a tall figure appeared there, obviously their instructor for the first part of the exams. He started by introducing himself to everyone, explaining the rules of the written portion of the exam, and saying about how none of them were worthy to become chuunin in his eyes, but she was only half paying attention.

Had her mind not been elsewhere, she might have actually been fretting over the prospect of a written test, which she wasn't particularly good at. Instead, she was too busy staring off into empty space to notice, until her test and pencil were finally placed on her desk, snapping her back to reality.

“Now, everyone begin!” the proctor shouted. “And remember... you'd better not cheat. My associates will catch anyone who does. Three strikes and you're gone, as is the rest of your team.”

Sonya glanced around at the other higher level shinobi all around the room. Where had they come from? She swallowed, suddenly feeling nervous for the first time, like she should have from the beginning. They only had one hour to complete the test, but there were only ten questions, so it shouldn't be that bad, right? A quick glance at the questions, however, proved that an hour might not even be enough time.

While there were a few easy questions that she was able to answer right away, the other questions were so advanced and complex, that she could barely even process what they were asking, let alone working out how to answer them. A sinking feeling dropped into her gut. The exams had just begun, and already she was in danger of being eliminated. How was she supposed to make it to the end and win it all if she couldn't even get by the first round?!

Okay, she just had to remain calm. Surely, there was some way she could do this. Whatever that way was, though, it wouldn't be her knowledge that got her through. These questions were stumping her something fierce. But she couldn't just cheat... that was against the rules and would get her thrown out. Unless... unless they didn't catch her. If there was some way that she could cheat without getting caught... then she would be able to get through this test no problem. But how?

Looking up, she caught sight of several shinobi busily writing away at their exams. They seemed completely relaxed and calm, and were somehow working through the problems rather quickly. If they knew the answers, then she just had to copy them somehow... and she knew just how to do it. Taking a deep breath, she activated those eyes of hers, the Sharingan. Ever since her talk with the Tsuchikage, she knew what they were, and who she really was. She was an Uchiha, a clan long believed to be extinct. That made her special, in a way.

Carefully observing one of the test takers' hand motions, she put her pencil to her own test and swiftly began to copy the motions. Within twenty minutes, they had both finished, leaving her with each question answered. After quickly going over the answers, she was able to apply them to the questions and determine that they were indeed correct. Well, either that or she would fail. In the meantime, she waited patiently for the hour to be up, as one by one genin were caught for cheating, and thrown out along with the rest of their teammates.

“Alright, there's ten minutes left,” the proctor said, standing up again. “Looks like some of you didn't make it this far, but there are still quite a few of you. It's time for the eleventh question. You can choose to answer it if you wish, and if you get it right, then you'll automatically pass. Get it wrong, and you automatically fail, along with your team. Or, you can choose to not answer it and rely on your other question's answers. Keep in mind though, that if you answered more than three of your other questions wrong, then you fail.”

Sonya began to panic. What the hell was this?! A secret question? Should she choose to answer it? Or should she rely on her other answers, which she was sure were right. Or...at least she thought they were right. Now she wasn't so sure, she was starting to doubt herself. And what would her other teammates choose?

“The question is as followed,” the proctor said. “You and your teammates are on a highly important and dangerous mission. You have the opportunity to complete the objective, but in the process your teammates would die. If you go back to save them, however, then you fail the mission. What do you do?”

But that didn't make any sense. That was an opinion, wasn't it? How could an opinion be wrong? No, no, no, what was she supposed to do? Should she even bother to answer it? Something inside her forced her to answer it, though. Even if she failed the exam right then and there, she wasn't going to pass up this chance to answer this nature of question. Not after what happened to Aimi. Taking her pencil, she wrote 'I would go back to save my teammates. I don't care what the nature of the mission is, there is nothing more important than your friends and family. Leaving them to die is unforgiveable.”

“Alright, time's up!” the proctor shouted. “Now anyone who chose not to answer the eleventh question, get the hell out of this room and come back next year!”

Amidst the confusion that followed, genin looekd to each other and started to whisper, unsure of what was going on.

“You heard me! The rest of the questions were pointless, the real test was having the balls to answer the last question, in spite of the results if you got it wrong. Because it's an opinion question, there might not seem to be a clear right or wrong answer, and in truth there isn't. So it might have seemed that there was no way to answer it correctly, which there isn't. But being able to choose to answer it was real test, so anyone who cowardly chose not to answer, GET OUT OF MY EXAM ROOM!”

And so, almost half the remaining teams filed out of the room. To her amazement, Sonya and her teammates remained behind.

“Congratulations,” the proctor said, folding his arms. “You all pass through to the second round of the exams... if you'll all follow me, I'll take you to them.”

Sonya's hand flew up. “Excuse me, sir.”

The proctor raised an eyebrow in annoyance. “Yes...?”

“I know you said there was no right or wrong answer to the final question, because of it being an opinion, but.... what is your opinion on it?”

“My opinion?” The proctor eyes her carefully. “You know, no one's actually asked me that before in all my years of doing this... but okay, I'll tell you. In my opinion, those who would abandon the mission to save their teammates when failure could mean disaster for the village, are complete trash.”

Sonya's eye twitched a little, and her heart sank like a rock. “I... I see...”

“BUT,” the proctor continued. “Those who would leave their friends to die are even lower than trash.”

Sonya glanced up, surprised. She could have sworn that for a moment, the proctor had smiled at her. She smiled to herself in response, then slowly got up out of her desk to follow him to the next stage of the exams.

Sonya's Chuunin Exams Empty
PostSubject: Re: Sonya's Chuunin Exams   Sonya's Chuunin Exams EmptyMon May 30, 2011 7:56 pm

Sonya

For the second stage of the exams, they were brought to the surface, and into the surrounding jungled mountains. It seemed like an odd place to have the next part of the chuunin exams, but Sonya wasn't about to raise questions. They didn't stop until they reached what looked like the entrance to some kind of fenced in compound. A long, high metal fence ran around the perimeter, so far on either side that she couldn't see their ends.

“Alright, here is where I leave you,” the proctor said, “the second proctor will be here in a second.” And with that, he disappeared.

“What? Hey, what the hell?” said Ako, one of her other teammates. “He can't just leave us here like that, can he?

Her other teammate, Juro, shrugged his shoulders. “I guess he can do whatever he wants? He did say the second proctor would be here soon...”

And so she was. A figure suddenly came darting down from the trees, landing in front of the large group of genin. She was a wild haired woman, dressed in rather revealing clothing. “Hello and welcome to my territory,” she said with a snide laugh. “And prepare yourselves for one wild ride.”

When her greeting was met with silence and confused stares, she just sighed and shook her head. “Okay, so this is how things are going to work. As you can see behind me, the area of jungle beyond here is fenced in. That's because, it is considered to be a highly dangerous and hostile sector of jungle, and no one is allowed inside except under special circumstances. This is one of those circumstances. Each team will be forced to enter and survive in this hostile area, known as sector 602.”

Worried whispers began to ripple through the crowd of genin, but the proctor quickly silenced them. “Quiet!” she yelled, annoyed. “I haven't finished talking. Now, your goal in this is not just to survive, but to make it to the center tower, which is approximately a two day hike through the jungle. However, in order to enter the tower, you'll need a key to unlock the gates. The keys look like this.”

The proctor held up what looked like a medallion, with one half in the image of a sun, and the other half a moon. With a simple motion, she pulled the two halves apart. “Each team will be getting one half of a medallion, either a sun half, or a moon half. You'll need both halves to make a full medallion to unlock the gates to the tower. That's right, that means that you're going to have to forcefully take your missing half from another team that has it.”

Sonya crouched down on her feet, thinking. Okay, so that meant that they were going to have to not only survive a dangerous area of jungle, but also attack other teams for the second half of their keys so they could make it to the next stage. That being true, then only half the current teams at most would make it to the next stage of the exams, and that was being optimistic. Surely some teams would fail to make it regardless of whether they lost their medallions or not.

“Each team will be starting at a different entrance,” the proctor explained. “And each team will be entering at a different them, approximately five minutes apart. You have three days from the time the last team enters to make it to the tower. Once that time passes, if you haven't yet made it to the tower, then you automatically fail... and we might be kind enough to send a search party in to find you. Now, everyone come sign these medical release forms, and head to your designated entrances.”

Some time later, Sonya's team was at their entrance, waiting for it to open.

“So... what do you guys think is in there?” Ako asked.

Juro shrugged. “Who knows? Guess we'll find out when we get there. Doesn't really matter, though, I suppose. Either way, we're still going to have to find a team with the moon half to add to our sun half, so we can unlock the tower gates.”

“Yeah, and make sure ours doesn't get stolen in the process,” Ako said with a sigh. “What about you, Sonya? You got any thoughts?”

“My thoughts...?” Sonya said, staring up at the trees. “Just... survive, I guess.”

After about a twenty minute wait, their entrance finally opened. The three hapless genin stepped inside the compound of sector 602, unsure of what lay in store for them. Once the gate closed behind them, they quickly moved out, keeping high to the trees and traveling as fast as they could towards the center of the jungle. Their plan was to travel as much as they could during the first day, to be sure they wouldn't be too far from the center to get there when it mattered. They would worry about finding another team on the second day, since by that time, there would be less space for the teams to spread out, and therefore they would have higher chances of finding another team. Of course, if they happened to run into another team during the first day, they could kill two bids with one stone. By the time night started to fall, about six hours later, the group stopped.

“Alright, Juro, you set up camp,” Ako said, looking around. “I'll go scour the area for food. Sonya, think you can set up some traps to keep our camp secure?”

“I can do that,” she answered, with a small shrug.

When Ako disappeared, Sonya started to work on her traps, while Juro set up a shelter in the middle of some giant tree roots, covering it with plants to keep them hidden. Sonya started by digging several tiger traps and covering them with shrubs, then set up a trip wire around the perimeter, along with a series of paper bombs that would go off if someone tripped it. The next thing she did was build several swinging logs with spikes on them, also rigged to trip wires. By the time she was done, their camp was well guarded. Fortunately, they didn't need to worry about the traps going off that night, as no other teams stumbled across them.

The next day, the group continued their journey to the center of the jungle, though they moved slower and more stealthy now, keeping their eyes open for any other teams. They were sure to stay as high as they could in the trees giving them a better vantage point to attack from should they spot anyone. It wasn't until after noon time that they finally ran across another team of genin, running swiftly across the ground. It was foolish to keep to the ground, it left them open to attacks from above.

For now, Sonya's team shadowed the group, waiting for an opening. Several minutes alter, it finally came. The group slowed to a stop, apparently breaking for lunch, or at least a rest. It was at this point that her team struck. Sonya leaped through the air and came crashing down to the ground. She landed straight on one of the genin and knocked him to the ground on his stomach. She knelt on his back, a kunai to his throat. Ako and Juro landed next to her, before their other two opponents could react.

“Nobody move!” Sonya yelled, pressing the knife blade to the boy's neck. “If you don't want him to die, give us your medallion piece! Now!”

“C-come on guys,” the boy stuttered, “just give it to them.”

One of the other genin pulled out their half of the medallion, a sun piece.

“Shit,” Ako said. “Sonya, let him up. They have the same half we do, it won't help us. Just let them go.”

Sonya let out a small sigh and stepped off the boy. “Fine, get out of here. And consider yourselves lucky!”

The other team quickly fled, eager to get away, leaving Sonya, Ako, and Juro standing there alone.

Ako sighed. “Well, I guess we'd better start looking for another-” KABOOM! Suddenly, a giant explosion erupted from right next to them, sending all three in different directions through the air.

Sonya landed in some bushes not far away, but she was dazed. She tried to regain her bearings, but was having trouble stabilizing herself. She did manage to see another group of genin emerging from the surrounding trees and attacking Ako and Juro. She saw sudden flashes of Aimi, and the bear that killed her. It was like that situation all over again, her down and out, unable to help. No, she wasn't about to relive that, not again.

This time, she got back to her feet quickly, trying to ignore her wooziness. Ako and Juro were doing a decent job at holding their enemies off, but they were outnumbered. Well, not anymore. Sonya activated her sharingan and hit them with her new genjutsu, instantly causing them to become more sluggish. From there, she whipped out her three windmill shuriken, wire already attached, and threw them forward into the air.

Using her chakra, she guided them, wrapping one of the other genin to a tree and holding him there. Then, Sonya jumped up and pulled one of the lines tight, stretching from her fingers to his body. Taking in a deep breath, she breathed out a powerful wave of fire that traveled down the wire and scorched the boy's body, as well as the tree. His screams echoed throughout the jungle. The other two members of his team stood like deer frozen in headlights, and it was that moment that Ako and Juro took advantage of, swiftly taking them both out.

“Wow... that was some fancy work, Sonya,” Ako said.

Sonya merely shrugged. “It got the job done. Search their bodies for their medallions. I'm guessing they have a moon piece.”

And so they did. Now with both halves of the key, the group moved out, continuing tot he center of the jungle. When they finally arrived at the tower, they made it inside without any problems. They found themselves in a large, open room, with a balcony above. Several other teams had already made it before them, and the second proctor stood waiting in the center of the room.

“And yet another team arrives,” she said, marking something off on a clipboard. “Just six hours left to go.”

Sonya's Chuunin Exams Empty
PostSubject: Re: Sonya's Chuunin Exams   Sonya's Chuunin Exams EmptyMon May 30, 2011 10:53 pm

Sonya

“Well damn it,” the proctor muttered, six hours later. “How the hell did this happen?”

What she was referring to was that ten teams had made it through to advance in the exams. This was much more than she expected. Normally, only about five or six teams made it through. This meant that there were thirty eligible genin heading into the next round.

“Alright, change of plans,” she announced, walking in front of the crowd. “Since so many of you made it here in time, we're going to have to further weed out the unworthy ones. We'll be having a series of preliminary battles that will determine who makes it into the final stage. Each person will partake in a single fight. Winner moves on, loser goes home. Match ups will be decided completely at random. Everybody take ten minutes to rest up, because that's when we begin!”

Sonya let out a slow breath. Just when she thought that she'd made it into the final stage of the exams, this happens. Now, she had to win another battle in order to proceed, and after having spent three days tiring herself out in the middle of a jungle. The only good news was that everyone else was in the same position, so they'd all be on even ground. The only question was, who would she be fighting? No matter who it was, she wouldn't know anything about their abilities, except maybe Ako and Juro, and even then she'd only spent three days with them.

All she could do, though, was simply sit and wait. She would get her chance to fight eventually, but not right now. Instead, several other matches took place first, all people she didn't recognize. It was almost sad, really, to think that she had been a genin for so long and yet she didn't know any others in the village. She supposed that was just the sad state that Iwa was in. Sighing quietly to herself, she watched and waited. Once five matches had been decided, she glanced up at the screen that showed the next match up and felt her heart skip a beat when she saw the picture from her shinobi I.D. It looked like it was her turn. But who would be her opponent.

A second later, another image appeared. It was Ako, her teammate. She let out a small breath, actually feeling relieved. Sure, she was fighting her teammate, but she wanted to win, and she did know a little about what he could do. As for the other way around, he didn't know about her Sharingan, or really any of her jutsus save for the Dragon Fire Technique. She had a lot of aces up her sleeve in this case, so she would be sure to save them for the right moment.

“Looks like it's our go,” Ako said, heading down to the center of the room. Everyone else watched up from the balcony.

“Guess so,” Sonya said, moving down to the center with him. This was it, her first real fight of the exams, her chance to prove herself to everyone, but most importantly, Aimi. Wherever she was watching from, Sonya would make her proud.

“Everyone ready?” the proctor said, looking at them both. “Then begin!”

Ako started off quickly, running straight at her. Sonya prepared herself, takign a defensive stance and waiting for him to reach her. He started with a series of kicks and punches, which she was able to defend against for the most part, but she lost track of his movements after a while, as he spun and twirled with a kick that knocked her in the jaw. She flew backwards, but remained on balance, catching herself.

Ako kept pushing at her, but she wasn't about to let him get another attack in like the last one. This time, she made a series of hand signs and brought her hand to her mouth. Ako stopped suddenly, knowing what was coming, and started to run in a different direction. She tracked with her sight before finally releasing a large fireball at him. She was sure to aim it ahead of where he was running, so he would end up running into it. He did manage to stop in time, avoiding the main portion of damage, though he was still affected by the resulting blast.

Sonya followed up her attack with another, this time casting a genjutsu that would have him running from more flames that he would think were real, even if they weren't. Once she had him on the run, she took out one of her windmill shuriken and threw it while he was distracted. By the time he realized the attack was on its way, the large blade of the shuriken punctured through his shoulder and out the other side, causing him to spiral to the ground. Sonya wasted no time, leaping at him with a kunai and holding it to his neck.

“Wait, wait!” he yelled, wincing in pain. “I give up... you win.”

“And the winner is Sonya,” the proctor said, motioning for the medic-nins to assist the injured genin. “Join the others up on the balcony.”

Sonya's Chuunin Exams Empty
PostSubject: Re: Sonya's Chuunin Exams   Sonya's Chuunin Exams EmptyTue May 31, 2011 7:04 pm

Sonya

Sonya took in a deep breath and slowly let it out. Here she was, one month later after the previous stage of the Chuunin Exams, and getting ready for the final stage. They had given the hopeful genin who made it that far a one month preparation period to get ready. Sonya had used that entire month to its fullest, constantly training and mastering her techniques so she would dominate the final rounds, which was set up in a tournament style. Overall, she'd have to win two matches to get to the finals, and then win the finals themselves. That meant three matches overall. Three opponents stood between her and victory, and she could finally honor Aimi's memory.

“This is it,” she whispered to herself, looking around the crumbling arena. In years past, the finals of the chuunin exams would have been a great spectacle for people to gather and cheer on their favorites. These days, however, only jounin instructors gathered to observe. The exams were still held in the arena of Old Iwa, which now was cracked, crumbling, and overgrown just like all the other buildings. At least the center fighting space was still usable. That is where they would be fighting. That is where she would walk away the winner.

“Alright,” the proctor said, walking into the center of the arena. “This is how things are going to work. The battles are set up in a tournament style. If you win your first fight, you advance to the next round. Win again, and you advance to the finals. Win the finals, and you'll automatically be made a chuunin. Keep in mind, though, that not only the winner will be made a chuunin. Those that show exceptional skill will be promoted as well, regardless of whether or not they win. That being said, let us begin. The first match will be Sonya against Sayori. You may begin whenever you're ready.”

Sonya took in a nervous breath and made her way down to the center arena. Her opponent, Sayori, a young purple haired kunoichi, joined her there shortly after. She had no idea about this girl's abilities, but she would soon find out. She just had to hope that she would be able to adapt in order to defeat this girl.

“I hope you're ready,” Sayori said, pulling out a pair of hand fans and taking a defensive stance. “Play time is over.”

Sonya didn't say anything. She merely readied herself and awaited the first attack. Sayori didn't disappoint, immediately throwing one of her fans. The fan whistled through the air with deadly accuracy, surrounded by a cutting spiral of wind. Sonya ducked beneath the strike then ran forward with a kunai drawn. Sayori merely smirked and started running backwards, keeping her distance.

It was at this point that Sonya stopped suddenly as a loud whistling grew louder. She looked back to see the fan returning to its owner like a boomerang. She had only mere seconds to throw herself out of the way again. She felt the fan's razor edge scrap against the back of her shoulder, tearing open her shirt and her flesh beneath. Fortunately, it was a shallow cut, but it still stung.

Sayori giggled. “Almost had you there. Now that would have been a quick match.”

Sonya growled, ignoring the wound on her shoulder. If this bitch was going to keep things at a distance, then two could play at that game. She made several hand signs and cast out a huge fireball at the girl. Unfortunately, Sayori simply kept moving back and avoided it. Again she threw her fans, and again Sonya had to work to keep dodging. This time, she activated her Sharingan and pulled out her prepared windmill shuriken again. If she could just maneuver Sayori into position and bind her, then she could win.

With a shout, Sonya tossed the three shuriken, all while continually avoiding the projectile fans. She manipulated the shuriken past Sayori and then around her backside, in attempt to bind her, but before she could do so, the kunoichi jumped straight upwards, avoiding them. Her returning fans even sliced apart the connecting wires. Sonya cursed, creating more hand signs as Sayori landed back on the ground.

Suddenly, the kunoichi backpedaled with instant fear and surprise. She was screaming, no doubt horrified by whatever grisly sight the genjutsu was giving her. It gave Sonya the opening she needed, running in to bring the fight to close range. By the time Sayori began to recover, Sonya was leaping forward with a flying knee strike directly to her chin. The girl's head snapped back as she flew through the air and landed hard on her back, unable to get up.

“Winner, Sonya,” the proctor said. “Next match.”

Sonya's Chuunin Exams Empty
PostSubject: Re: Sonya's Chuunin Exams   Sonya's Chuunin Exams EmptyTue May 31, 2011 8:27 pm

Sonya

“Now, it's time for the second round,” the proctor said, after all of the first round matches had finished. “The first match will be Sonya and Haru.”

Sonya groaned as she got up from her seat on the surrounding stands. They hadn't given much rest time in between rounds, only about twenty minutes. The wound from her last match was still fresh, since she hadn't been able to do much to treat it in the meantime. The best she could do was hold a cloth to it during the off time and try to mop up some of the blood. While it had stopped bleeding for the moment, even a little bit of aggravation would probably open it up again. It didn't help that her shirt was still soaked with the thick liquid.

“Hey, you coming or what? I don't want to win on account of forfeit or nothing,” said the genin that was her opponent, Haru. He was ready and waiting in the arena, and didn't even have any injuries from his last match. Already he had an advantage.

“I'm coming, I'm coming,” Sonya grumbled, hopping down into the arena. Now wasn't the time for her to get soft, she had to fight through this. It was just a little pain, she'd be fine. Once she was in position, she took her hand off her injury and prepared herself for combat. “Alright, let's do this.

Haru let out an amused snort and made a hand sign. “Well then here we go.”

Almost instantly, Sonya was stricken with what felt like total paralysis. She couldn't move her body. Her limbs were trembling as if she were racked with total fear, and she didn't know why. Was this a genijutsu? Some kind of paralyzing ninjutsu? Or something else altogether. Before she could wonder on what was happening to her any longer, she was flying through the air smoking from a blown open hole in he front of her shirt. She landed on the ground with the world spinning around her.

“Oh come on, you're making this too easy,” Haru said with a snide laugh. “Looks like I'll be finishing things pretty quickly here.”

Sonya groaned, making a hand sign and using the body replacement technique to switch places with an old piece of rubble some fifty yards away, behind an large rubble pile. While the piece of rock she had switched places with was still disguised in her image, she took time to examine the new wound on her chest. There was a hole on the front of her shirt, and the skin beneath was charred black and smoking. What the hell had done that? She hadn't even seen her.

Glancing back over the rubble pile, she watched as Haru made another hand sign and shot out a small lightning bolt at her replacement. It exploded in a shower of rock chips. So, that was what had done that to her... but now her replacement gag was blown, and her opponent was looking for her.

“Oh come on now, you're only delaying the inevitable,” Haru said, looking around. “There isn't a whole lot of places out there to hide... I'll find you alright.”

“I'm not hiding anywhere,” Sonya said, scrambling out of her resting spot and running straight to the left. She jumped away and dodged another lightning strike, then another, and another. She did everything she could to scramble and duck, and dive, and evade every attack that she could. She had a plan here, but she had to get close to him. She was running in circles, ever so slowly advancing in on him, until finally she managed to get within range. Fortunately, Haru was proving to be a one trick pony with his lightning attacks.

“Got you!” Haru yelled suddenly, pulling a kunai and driving it straight through Sonya's chest as she got too close. “Ha! Too easy!”

But now it was Sonya's turn to smile. “Hmph...my thoughts exactly.” With that comment, she pushed him away from her and threw one of her windmill shurikens she had pulled out through the air up to the wall, where none other than Sonya was standing there, high up the vertical incline.

“Wh...huh?” Haru said, looking back at the Sonya he'd stabbed. That Sonya disappeared into a flock of crows, cawing and flapping into the skies.

The real Sonya caught the windmill shuriken and pulled off the string of wire attached to it. She made a hand sign and brought it up to her mouth. “Game over.”

“Ha, who are you kidding?” Haru said, bringing up his own hands to perform another jutsu. It was at that point he noticed the wire attached to his sleeve, wire that stretched through the air from him up to Sonya's mouth. “What the...”

In an instant, a wave of hot flames traveled down the string in seconds, engulfing the genin in a blast of fire. He ran around, screaming and trying to put out the flames. The jounin instructors stepped in to help, one of them using a water jutsu to put him out and then take him away to be treated for his injuries. Sonya let out a long breath and dropped back down to the ground and let out a long sigh of relief.

“Winner, Sonya,” the proctor said.

Sonya

“And now for the final match,” the proctor said, raising a hand and calling down the final two. “Sonya and Ishi.”

Sonya winced as she stood up and headed down to the center arena. They had had even less time to recuperate than the previous break. She was covered with bruises, cuts, and scratches, as well as a burn on her chest and long cut on her shoulder. The only solace that she took having to fight in this condition was that her opponent seemed to be equally battered. They were both not at their best, but they would both have to give it their all regardless. This was it, the final battle. One more victory and she would win. One more victory and she would have properly honored Aimi's memory and redeemed herself for her previous failure.

“This one's for you, Aimi,” she whispered to herself.

The proctor looked at both of them for a second before saying, “Combatants ready? Begin!”

When the fight began, Sonya immediately activated her Sharingan and ran at her opponent. She wasn't going to hold back this time, she was going all out. She'd finish it quickly. But things didn’t quite go as well as she thought they would. The whole fight in itself was a blur. Her normally impeccable vision from the Sharingan started to go blurry, and her head was spinning. She was slower than normal, stumbling, easy to counter.

Ishi easily pushed her off and counterattacked with a brutal series of blows. By the time she realized what was even going on, she was lying on her back staring up at the cloudy sky. Rain drops were falling onto her cheeks, as if the sky were weeping for her failure. She was stunned. This... wasn't how things were suppose to end at all. She was supposed to win... she was supposed to do it for Aimi. Not... not this. She wasn't supposed to fail... not again.

“Winner, Ishi,” the proctor said.
