Sonya

“Everyone move!” Jirobou shouted, leading the charge through the trees.

They didn't have a lot of time to waste before it was too late. From what they had learned from the Ame-nin before he died, there was a group of high level shinobi camped at the border of Rain Country and Wind Country, waiting to lead an attack on Suna. A good portion of their forces had gone on the recent mission to bring the daimyo to Ishi, and several had to remain behind to guard him on his return. Jirobou had sent advance word to Suna in case they didn't make it in time, at least for some preemptive warning. If Ame and Tani committed an all out attack right now, Suna very well could lose.

“Sonya, I want you to help lead the attack with me at the front!” Jirobou commanded. “Use your genjutsu to cripple the initial enemies. We'll take care of the rest!”

“Understood!” she responded, moving along quickly right next to him. She was the only one in the entire platoon that was well versed with genjutsu, and they had to exploit that. Illusion techniques could provide a great advantage to their team, especially since they would likely be outnumbered by a fair amount. If they didn't do this intelligently, they would probably be wiped out before they had a chance. At the same time, though, they had to rush to get to the location of the Ame camp.

Among the group, they had two medics, her as the sole genjutsu user, three taijutsu specialists, and five ninjutsu users. They were not a large force, and could be running straight into a massacre, but there was no other option. This was a time of dire urgency, and they had to go with what they had. They were the best chance Suna had to stop the attack early.

“Medics, stay in back!” Jirobou added, as they moved from tree to tree. “We can't risk you getting injured! Taijutsu users, right behind me and Sonya! As soon as she hits them with genjutsu, give them everything you got! Ninjutsu users, hover behind us and nuke them from a distance! We can do this if we do it right!” They just had to hope that they weren't outnumbered to the point of hopelessness. Well, they would find out soon enough.”

They traveled for hours straight to make it to the destination as quickly as possible. It wasn't until nightfall that they finally could see the camp in the distance. There were dozens of tents set up, and at least twenty campfires. They couldn't see any enemies yet because of the darkness, but they could only assume that there were many. Twenty, thirty, even more. Chances are, this wasn't going to end well for them, but they had to try.

“Sonya, I see several enemies close by at the campfire dead ahead,” Jirobou said, keeping his voice down to keep the element of surprise. “Hit them hard, and everyone else get ready to follow!”

Sonya didn't hesitate. She landed right near the campfire with her Sharingan already activated. She cast her genjutsu as fast as possible, throwing out her most powerful ones first. There could be no holding back if they wanted a chance of succeeding here. The four people around the campfire never had a chance; the were dead before they knew what was going on. Fortunately, it seemed that although they were great in numbers, they were spread out throughout the camp. If the Suna squad stuck together, they might be able to pull this off.

That moment of hope didn't last very long, however. Before they could move on and try to find another group of Ame nin to attack, explosions started going off all around them. Sonya lost sight of her squad mates amidst the fire and flying tent pieces. She ducked behind scattered pile of logs and held her hands over her head, trying to protect herself from any flying debris. Before she knew it, she was buried under a pile of random crap like sticks and tents and tree branches. It seemed to take an eternity before the explosions finally stopped. She could hear sounds of fighting, but she couldn't join her allies until she dug herself out of this mess, which was easier said than done. There was so much stuff on her that she could barely move, let alone squeeze her way free.

Sonya glanced up, seeing nothing but darkness. Not a whole lot of light could reach her where she was, but she could just barely make out a tiny gap in all the debris that allowed her to see a small window into the world beyond. There was fire, lots of it. Every now and then she would see a brief flash of on of her fellow Suna nin, or an enemy Ame nin. She couldn't tell how many there were or if they were winning or losing. One thing was for sure, though, the enemy had been expecting them. There was no other explanation for those coordinated explosions that was meant to separate and disorient them. Damn it, she had to get free so she could help!

She struggled harder, managing to wiggle around a little bit, pushing and pulling herself against the ground to try and gain some leverage. She got her arms flat against the ground and used them to push herself upright, though the weight of debris was much more than her weak little muscles could handle. She wasn't exactly the most physically strong shinobi around, after all. “Damn iiiiit!” she muttered, crashing back down to the ground again suddenly. She took in deep, steady breaths, trying to calm herself and try again.

It took quite a few tries, but eventually she managed to maneuver her way through the wreckage until finally she sprang free. “Gah!” she coughed, standing up immediately and taking a fighting stance. She was ready to roll! ...except the fighting was over apparently. There stood her allies, not a single one falling to the enemy. And there were all the Ame nin, scattering the ground...all twelve of them.

“Uh...what happened?” Sonya asked, looking around in confusion.

“I have no idea,” Jirobou said, also gazing around the area. “Such a large camp, and yet so few people inhabiting it... there's only one reason for that.”

Sonya felt sick to her stomach as she realized what he meant. “A decoy.”

“Exactly,” he said, gritting his teeth. “And if that's the case, then there's a larger force out there somewhere ready to make an attack on Suna.”

Suddenly, they heard laughter. One of the fallen Ame nin was still alive, and he was quite obviously amused. “You... fucking idiots...” he said through a fit of coughing. “Took the bait... hook, line, and... sinker... hahaha... by now the Amekage... has made his move on Suna.”

Jirobou grabbed the man and pulled him upright. “Where?! Where is he leading the attack from?!”

“Like I'd... tell you, Suna scum...”

“Damn it all...” he muttered, tossing him back to the ground. “Well in that case... Sonya, he's all yours. Make him talk.”
