The Ninth Circle (S Rank) Empty
PostSubject: The Ninth Circle (S Rank)   The Ninth Circle (S Rank) EmptyWed Jul 13, 2011 12:07 pm

Fushigawa Noroi

The circle of shinobi sat there in silence, each one seated in his chair without much to say. The Daimyo's intention to visit had been completely unannounced; indeed, the only reason that they even caught a hint of it was because of a tip given by one of the servants who tended to the meeting. A rookie jōnin let out an aggravated sigh, "If the Earth Daimyo invades Iwa, then we'd have to view it as an act of war. The Tsuchikage specifically mandated that no one is to leave or enter the village until he gives the go-ahead. This Daimyo is taking a bold move barging into our village like that-" There was a break as another jōnin spoke up, "What you are suggesting is civil war. You should know better than to suggest that; our village is no condition to engage in open conflict. We've all seen what happened to the Lightning Country during the War of the Clouds; we cannot afford that sort of struggle." There was a pause before another shinobi spoke up in fury, "But nonetheless, we cannot disregard his intrusion as a mistake! He's been planning to enter the village unannounced and without warning! We had to find out through a table servant for goodness sake! We are shinobi, we are tools of war. For you to say that we should be afraid of fighting would be like me telling you all to be afraid of breathing! We need to send the message across right now!" A cool, mellow voice spoke up calmly, "Men, men, this tension is unnecessary. It is obvious that the Tsuchikage announced that no entrance was to be permitted, true. But it is even more obvious that the Tsuchikage does not want any armed conflict. If we were to go to war with the Daimyo, we would just be leaving ourselves exposed to attack from outside villages; that is a fact. War is only a last resort. I have already prepared myself to investigate the situation, so no worries there. If there is an alterior motive, I will find it. For now, we must ease ourselves and focus on more pressing issues within the village." The whole group looked at the head jōnin with a manner of distrust. For all the world, they couldn't trust him. Namely because of that cheap smile he wore as he spoke of the rather dire situation.

"Is that so? Well then, I'll have to wish you luck... Fushigawa-sama..."

The jōnin grinned, "Thank you, I may need it. This is the Daimyo we're talking about, after all."

The jōnin commander strolled along an uneven dirt path, his eyes closed as he casually strolled outside of the village. Under normal circumstances, he would have been stopped, however, all of the high ranking shinobi in the village knew of the rather dire exception. The jōnin chuckled, "To think that a powerless man in robes could set the greatest shinobi in the ninja world on edge. My, my, nothing quite disturbs the human spirit as the power of the purse. Hah.... But now for the task at hand... To think that they expect me to get this information without knowledge of where the Daimyo is, or how many people are accompanying him. Well, then, I can use either one of two tactics; I could always use a distraction and somehow make contact with the Daimyo... No, that would set them on edge and make them declare it as an attack from Iwa. No, I must go even deeper... I will portray myself as one of the servants before killing one of his appointees and taking his face. I only need to get information from of the higher ups in any case to gather his purpose. It would be much easier to just kill the Daimyo though... so much easier... Humph, but what to do..."

Fushigawa Noroi

Entering the caravan was no problem at all; all of the security was focused on the Daimyo's cart, leaving the other servants susceptible to attack. The Daimyo was as paranoid as he believed him to be; he wouldn't take any chance with his life, not with the condition that the village was in. He must have heard about the War of the Clouds and the assasination of various top officials. He would not take a chance with his own life... or livelihood. The cleverly guised Noroi held a platter of food as the caravan came to a stop. This would be his only chance... He would have to slip past the guards, reach the Daimyo's head of state affairs, and somehow make hand to hand contact. Even if it was just a grazing brush... He would not have to scrounge through every one of the statesman's memories; it would all be a matter of chance... and luck. He sighed, "Life would just be easier if I could just serve this food to the Daimyo..." A hand patted a shoulder, he had not realized that he had spoken out loud "The Daimyo, eh? I was given charge to serve him, but as you can see, I'm getting a bit old for this sort of a bended knee job, hurts my pride. How 'bout you take the food in for me? It wouldn't hurt to have you serve a high-ranking official for one day." Noroi looked up at the strange man in mock admiration, "R-R-Really?! I-I mean, I never would have imagined that I'd be able to... Oh my... YOU'VE MADE ME THE HAPPIEST MAN HERE!!!" He gave the jolly man a wide hug, his eyes filled with wonder. The man pulled him off slowly, "Yeah, yeah, just next time don't go for that touchy-feely stuff. Makes a man feel... uncomfortable." The guised servant leapt into the air, and rushed to gather the materials necessary. Who knew? If he could just make even minor contact with the Daimyo, he would be able to extract the necessary memories to complete the mission. He wouldn't even have to kill his high-ranking officials to get near him!

...how wrong he had been.

Every step of the way, the guised servant was checked; for weapons, for poisons, for letters, one could not tell. The searches were so frequent that the food that he carried had grown cold; the Daimyo only ate food when it was hot. He stood there on a knee as the Daimyo began his tirade, his saliva shooting and reaching all four corners of the wagon. "YOU... FOOLISH... CHILD! HOW DARE YOU LET MY FOOD GET COLD! I DON'T CARE IF THEY MADE YOU CIRCUMNAVIGATE THE WORLD, YOUR FIRST PRIORITY IS TO SATISFY MY CARNAL DESIRES, DO YOU UNDERSTAND?!" There was no way he'd be able to go forward and kiss the Daimyo's hand like this; from the way it was going, he was going to get thrown out, and then it would all be for naught. No... He would have to find some other means to draw the Daimyo's contact. There was only one other way, "Sir, I had hoped to make the food as cold as your heart is!" There was a sudden hush as the entire retinue stared at the bold and defiant servant. The Daimyo's expression did not change; rather, his eyes remained focused on the servant as he tried to comprehend what he had just heard. "W-What did you say?" The servant looked up at him in defiance, "For years now, you have ruled like a coward! You ordered the murder of ill aunt who was taking care of me! You slaughtered entire towns who 'dared' to be late on paying taxes. You disgust me you regal pig!" At this point, the Daimyo's face was boiling red. He stormed forward and gave the servant a nasty slap; his first contact. It was nowhere near long enough for Noroi to extract the memories that he wanted; he'd have to probe him further. "Go on, hit me! But have comfort in knowing that you'll never be as a much of a coward as your father was!"

The Daimyo leapt forward and began choking the servant, allowing Noroi to extract all the memories that he needed. The Daimyo had come to collect taxes from Iwa. That would do no good... Especially with the situation that the village was in... He sighed, this was going to be a problem. The guards leapt forward and dragged the servant out, throwing him onto the forest ground outside, "Stay out peasant-trash. Be glad to still have your life."
