HistoryOuka is the eldest daughter of Hiro Hyūga, brother to Clan leader Hizaki. Her mother was likewise a member of the branch house, who had been named after one of the more famous members of the Hyūga family, Hinata - a contemporary of Hokage Naruto Uzumaki.
Born into the Branch House (分家, Bunke) of the Hyūga Clan, she was raised to honor and respect the members of the Main House (宗家, Sōke).
Very quickly, it became apparent that Ouka was very much like her mother in disposition; soft-spoken, polite, and kind, much as their famous ancestor had been. At the same time, she proved more confident and proud than most, and ill bore the dishonor (as she perceived) inherent in her status. She met her cousin Hiten, heir to the Main House, a number of times, but the latter's cold disposition made their interactions difficult, and while respectful, she never liked him much.
Her outlook remained much the same until her mother told her the seldom-repeated story, a number of generations back, of Hizashi Hyūga - a branch house leader who, out of love for his brother and his clan, sacrificed himself. The story moved Ouka deeply, and she became less resentful towards the main house in the aftermath, though no less confident in her own abilities.
From a young age, she showed herself to be highly skilled in taijutsu. When she turned six, two things happened: She entered the Academy, and her sister Sakura was born. In the Academy she proved to be a quick and studious learner who, interestingly, showed a strong aptitude for Fire-Style jutsu. She distinguished herself in taijutsu and ninjutsu equally well, and proved decent in genjutsu, though this was mostly her weakness.
Ouka graduated from the Academy at the top of her class, and took and passed the Chūnin Exams that same year.
Her home life at this point was, for lack of a better world, perfect. In the Academy she had learned of and dedicated herself to the long-running ideal of the Will of Fire, and believed especially strongly that the responsibility of any Shinobi or Kunoichi was to protect and pass on their love of the Village and the Land of Fire to the next generation. This she took to heart in her behaviour towards her baby sister, of whom she was extremely protective - She had been the same at the Academy with younger students in particular, becoming a sort of surrogate sister for some of them.
Unfortunately tragedy struck a few years later when little Sakura fell prey to disease. Her parents and uka made every effort, but after a year or so Sakura finally died. The loss devastated her parents, but it was Ouka who suffered the most, for she had loved her sister more than anything in the world. She was fifteen at the time.
She threw herself into her training with even greater determination and, much as another famous ancestor of hers had, began to teach herself the Clan's most powerful techniques, techniques not normally taught to members of the Branch House. Ouka's role model as a child, however, had always been her mother's namesake, and one of the techniques she taught herself was the powerful taijutsu invented by Hinata Hyūga. Experimenting with Fire-Style jutsu, she also devised one of her own, loosely inspired by her ancestor's signature technique.
Shortly thereafter, she was promoted because of her skill in taijutsi to the rank of Special Jōnin.
